I’ve wanted to be a doctor since I was 3 years old (I’m a junior now). I’ve had a lot of medical issues in my life and have spent a lot of time in hospitals, so I have a passion and it really interests me. I’m just worried about my grades. Since I started high school, I’ve been getting mostly A- to B range, with a few As and Cs sprinkled in. My junior year is almost over, and my GPA is a 3.4 as of last semester. I am in some AP classes, including AP Psych this year and AP Biology next year. In elementary and middle school, I got all As and rarely got a B. But high school has been more challenging….I’ve had a lot of absences due to illnesses, so I’m constantly playing catch-up. I’ve also been suffering from depression (due to family problems), so I’ve had trouble concentrating. But after having surgery 3 weeks ago, I’m feeling much better and I don’t anticipate many more medical concerns. I should be able to be in school more. Also, my depression is situational, so once I go to college, I’ll probably be fine. I want this more than anything else and I just can’t imagine myself in another career. I have a real passion…I’m not just in it for the money. I know it’s hard work and I’m willing to dedicate a lot of time to studying. Do medical schools look at high school grades, or mostly just college? If I get into a fairly good college and do really well (I want to study biology and psychology), plus get a good score on the MCAT, do I still have a shot at getting into medical school? Thanks!
