[ Small Business ] Open Question : How do I get a company to pay me on an overdue freelance invoice?
I’ve been working at a big private Toronto hospital part time doing various media related work for just over a year under the supervision of a former professor. I’ve always been told to just “keep track of your hours and bill us” which I’ve been doing without a problem. Usually it takes them 3 weeks to a month to deposit the funds. I submitted the last invoice on Mar. 27th, it is now May 8th. I e-mailed the the secretary who receives my invoices last week to ask if she could update me on the status of the invoice. She contacted the doctor who signs off on them and said it was being “processed”. I never signed a formal contract with them as it was just a continuation of my work with this professor except this time I’ve been billing the hospital. When should I send another e-mail and what should I be saying this time? When should I ask my professor for help? I’m just stressed because I really need the money and feel like they got me by the balls. I’d be grateful for any help I can get. I’m also still going there once a week since submitting the last invoice.
