I am writing an Essay Julius Caesar and I’m suppose to choose one theme and write an essay on how three different characters demonstrates the theme. The theme I choose is ” A man’s weapon to power is manipulation”. Can someone PLEASE take the time to proofread and edit my essay and tell me some feedback. And How can i start my conclusion Paragraph? Julius Caesar is a tragedy written by William Shakespeare and is one of his famous plays that were actually based on a real event from Roman history. This play shows the conspiracy against Julius Caesar and his assassination. It all starts with Caesar assassinating Pompey and the citizens of Rome celebrating his victory. This is the time when Caesar had great power which raised many judgments between some Romans. In Julius Caesar, manipulation seemed like a game. Characters in this play used manipulation to gain power, influence a large amount of crowds, and to scam each other. The theme that revolves around Julius Caesar is “Manipulation is a man’s weapon to power”. Manipulation was a handy method for Cassius because he is a thinker and has the ability to influence people with the crazy, sick mentality that he has mix in with cleverness and a sharp mind. Cassius uses manipulation in Julius Caesar to pursue his desires and to accomplish his goal to influence and recruit Brutus to turn against his friend Caesar in a conspiracy to kill him. He does this by telling Brutus Caesar’s weaknesses and expressing his concerns for Caesar’s great power. Not only does he manipulates Brutus but the conspirators as well, Cicero and Casca, changing their perspective of Caesar as a “tyrant” and an “ambitious power hungry dictator”. He goes as far with his manipulation weapon by planting a false letter to send to Brutus to convince him even more. As naïve as he is, Brutus joins Cassius’s scheme as he was convinced he will be helping the Roman citizens. Smart manipulation got Cassius what he truly wanted and using that weapon pursued his desires. Mark Antony also demonstrated the same theme. He used manipulation to speak at Caesar’s funeral. Due to his careful manipulation, Brutus allows him to speak at the funeral. If you tune in to Act III, Scene 2, he specifically stated that he’s not there to praise Caesar but to bury him. But what does he end up doing? He starts to praise and honor him. He uses a motive to accomplish his goal managing to gain the conspirator’s trust. He used his speech to manipulate the crowd to go against the conspirators and to make them understand that Brutus is not the loyal honorable man they think he is. As you can see in Act III, he kept using rhetorical questions and repeating: “Brutus is an honorable man”, hinting that he really isn’t. He also uses fear, emotion and ethics in his speech. He got his way at the funeral by using the same manipulation tactic that Cassius used. Decius demonstrated this theme as well. Although he is a minor character in Julius Caesar and doesn’t really have a big role, I think he played a big role in Act II, Scene II as a manipulator. Why? He’s the reason why Caesar went to the Senate despite what Calpurnia told him about her nightmare. Caesar warned Caesar not to go to the Senate because she dreamt of his death. Caesar didn’t heed Calpurnia. Decius persuaded him not to go and gave him a positive interpretation of Calpurnia’s dream. This made Caesar rethink his decision and he decides to go and that is what ends Caesar dead.
